“J’aime la musique” is not just a phrase on an agnès b. t-shirt. To her, it is an actual policy commitment! In addition to designing clothing for artists, agnès b. counts musicians and singers among her fans.

Music is essential in the world of agnès b. In-store listening stations enable customers to discover new music and offer visibility to independent music labels, creating a true agnès b. sound identity.

Supporting the labels

In her very first shop of the rue du Jour, music from the Ramones was on constant play. Music is essential in the world of agnès b. Today, the moto remains “enable to discover” and agnès b. offers support and visibility to small labels and young artists (usually independent like us) and the list is long! agnès b. has supported Versatile Records, Zombie Zombie, Rough Trade, PanEuropean Recording, Bornbad, Infiné Music, Tigersushi, Talitre, Gonzaï, Teenage Menopause, and Prohibited, but the list is not complete as we often discover new labels that need our support.

Co-editions

Special deals with various recording companies are growing all over the world. Preview listening sessions (Patti Smith, Tricky, Cat Power), support for first albums (Joachim, Poni Hoax, Rone) and unconditional follow-up (Zombie Zombie, Koudlam, Frustration), leave room for no doubt that agnès b. loves music! It is thanks to collaboration with record labels that we have been able to produce compilations that we given away in our shops free of charge (Chloé, Bernard Szajner, Carl Craig, Buvette, Flotation Toy Warning, Véronique Vincent & Aksak Maboul, NLF3, Guillaume Teyssier, Essaie pas and Talitres 10th anniversary). This has also made possible to open pop-up shops, like Rough Trade during the Rough Trade on Tour at agnès b. for the first Record Day in France and the return of Rough Trade to France after 15 years of absence.

And with the music festivals

agnès b. loves music festivals, moments of communion between the artists and their public. For 10 years now, she has been supporting the music festival La Route du Rock: taking part in the production of the festival compilations and more recently through photography exhibitions that link with music and the agnès b. universe. agnès b. also supports Sonic Protest, Midi Festival, Soy Festival, Les Femmes s’en Mêlent, Nuits Sonores et le Paris Psyché International Music Festival.

Dressed in b.

In addition to designing wardrobe especially for artists, agnès b. counts many musicians and singers among her fans, including Placebo, Air, Mathieu Chédid, Interpol, Rone, Ibeyi, and David Bowie was a long time fan. These brand enthusiasts including Sonic Youth, Patti Smith, Tom Waits, as well as Baxter Dury, Temples, William Eggleston, James Chance, Chet Baker, Alan Vega, Lee Ranaldo, Chloé and Nicolas Ker to name a few.

Concert, festivals... production and co-production

And this commitment for music goes farther, with the co-production of concerts, like the one by Tinderstick at the Saint Eustache Church or at Point Ephémère for the Rough Trade 40th anniversary party. And not forgetting the event for the 30th anniversary of the agnès b. brand, for which she organised a concert at L’Olympia in Paris or at the Café de La Danse where she organized the “On aime la musique !” music festival.

agnès b. celebrates her 30' anniversary at l'Olympia

agnès b. curated a music concert at L’Olympia in Paris to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the agnès b. brand during Paris Fashion Week in October 2006. Following a presentation of her summer 2007 women's wear collection, the famed music hall came to life with the sound of rock ‘n’ roll. The event saw legendary names in rock and emerging artists, including Patti Smith, Jean Louis Aubert, Placebo, The Virgins, Sonic Youth, Splitt, Pony Hoax and Raphael. Two exhibitions were presented in the venue, La jeune fille dans la ville and Suitman by Korean-American artist Young Kim. Rock ‘n’ roll is always at the heart of the agnès b. universe.
