Poni Hoax, a French band born in the early 2000s under the leadership of Laurent Bardainne, immediately established itself as the union of converging forces: on the one hand, the rigor of a composer and instrumentalist who had broken away from the jazz conservatory; on the other, the magnetic presence of Nicolas Ker, a terminal new wave crooner with a sepulchral voice. Surrounded by Arnaud Roulin on keyboards, Vincent Taeger on drums and Nicolas Villebrun on guitar, they imposed a unique identity from the dark and haunting Budapest, then the unstoppable She’s on the Radio, combining the poisonous elegance of Roxy Music, the tension of New Order and the fervor of Larry Levan. With Images of Sigrid, Poni Hoax accomplished the miracle of an instant classic, before continuing its quest through A State of War and Tropical Suite, sonic journeys haunted by memory and elsewhere. On stage, it's either apocalypse or revelation, a Formula 1 race driven by a band of Gremlins, a burning energy that leaves behind only burning embers. The adventure ends with the tragic death of Nicolas Ker in 2021, while the notes of Laurent Bardainne's saxophone rise into the gray sky of Père-Lachaise, the last echo of a dazzling odyssey.
Poni Hoax celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2025, with the release of the album "Greatest Hits: Everything is Real" on April 11th on platforms, and on April 12th on vinyl for Record Store Day, including three previously unreleased tracks. In partnership with FIP, Les Inrocks, and agnès b.
