The new exhibition at La Fab. explores Agnès' collection through the prism of this genre. Agnès tells this exhibition's genesis and takes a closer look at some of the works.

Since 24 May, a new exhibition has been on show at La Fab. entitled la peinture figurative contemporaine dans la collection d'agnès b. Imagined by Agnès herself, the exhibition features paintings by a wide range of artists, from Cheri Samba and Harmony Korine to Claire Tabouret and Wolfram Adalbert Scheffler.

"Reflecting on my collection, I realised that I'd put together a lot of figurative paintings, with some really interesting pieces, and I thought this would be a good angle for an exhibition. I hung the almost 200 pieces like an oral dissertation, looking for the best way to link them together. Because some of them are quite different in style, approach and even period, so I had to find a thread."

She dwells on 5 works:

- Outflex (2023) by Harmony Korine (#1 in the carousel)
"I met Harmony at a party in New York and we hit it off straight away. I support him a lot and I help him to finance some of his movies. When he wanted to leave New York, he came to Paris to hide out in a studio I lent him for 2 years. I really like this painting that we used for the poster".

- Le commun des politiciens (2002) by Cheri Samba (#2)
"Cheri Samba's work is very political, it moves me, like this painting, which shows those who are forced to leave and go into exile, because the politicians embezzle".

- Mangeurs 1 (2013) by Claire Tabouret (#4)
"Claire Tabouret had her first exhibition with us, rue du jour, in 2013. I really like her work, this painting moves me a lot".

- Le trou du Huawei by Hervé Priou (#6)
"This painting intrigued me and I liked it immediately, with this finger sticking out of the phone".

- Éphémères (1992) by Gérard Zlotykamien (#8)
"30 years ago, I accompanied him as he went to put his figures in the abandoned houses about to be demolished in La Défense district, in Paris. It was poignant. I really like the depth of his work".
