Pierre Mendès France

Pierre Mendès France
Portrait of Pierre Mendès France on his deathbed, 1982. ©Agnès Troublé, signed on the front, pencil on paper, 20 x 29 cm.

It's now 41 years since the French statesman disappeared. Agnès was his daughter-in-law for a time, and even drew him.

On the anniversary of his death, Agnès recounts the bond between them: "I was his daughter-in-law when I was married to Jean-René Claret de Fleurieu. His mother, Claire, married Pierre Mendès France in 1971. She asked me to draw him."
